Creditable Compensation - Allotments

Creditable Compensation - Allotments

The Texas Legislature has passed allotments to provide pay increases to classroom teachers and other support staff including:

  • Teacher Retention Allotment (TRA)
  • Support Staff Retention Allotment (SSRA)
  • Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA)

Any compensation paid with funds from one of these allotment types is considered creditable compensation for TRS purposes.

Additional Considerations

  • Allotments earned by an active employee are reported as TRS-Eligible Compensation on the Regular Payroll (RP) report in the report month paid.
  • Allotment payments are reported under the primary position code, and are subject to Statutory Minimum contributions.
  • If a TRS retiree, with a retirement date after Sept. 1, 2005, exceeds the one-half time limits, pension surcharge is due on any TRS creditable compensation paid in the month they exceed, including Allotment compensation.

Please reach out to your RE Coach if you have questions or encounter errors related to reporting Allotment compensation.
